Amy Furber-Master Facilitator, Teacher, Communication Coach

Communication Teacher, Coach, & Facilitator.

Everything I’ve ever learned to do took time and practice. As an adult sometimes I forget this idea. I just want to be good at it--whether it be starting a new habit, or learning guitar, or baking sourdough from scratch. Let me be honest, the first two loaves of bread I made were tasty, but looked more like big pancakes than loaves of bread. What is that thing you’ve been learning that you wish you just woke up knowing?

Communication, public speaking, and facilitating meetings all take practice and strategy which is exactly what I teach in my coaching and training programs for mission-driven teams and individuals.

I teach both in person and virtually and my focus is on coaching and training mission-driven teams and individuals to show up confidently. My goal is to help you present the work that matters most to you in the best possible way.

I started my career in nonprofits and higher education. I was the Literacy Director for L.A.C.E.R. Afterschool programs (a nonprofit serving over 1000 students in the Los Angeles Unified School District) while at the same time teaching two nights a week at the community college. When my husband and I moved to the Bay Area, I continued to teach at night and became the Literacy Student/Tutor Coordinator for Project READ-a nonprofit focused on increasing necessary literacy skills for children through adult learners.

Since 1997 I’ve been teaching college students public speaking and communication and spent a year coaching students at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business. For the last 18 years I’ve led training workshops and coaching for corporate clients, managers, directors, VPs, and executives, in biotech and tech from startups to Fortune 500 companies. I’ve had the great fortune to lead workshops at the Women In Tech conference in Boston, Houston, San Francisco, and Washington DC.

In addition to working with adults, I also work with kids. I currently coach an elementary school speech and debate team that competes with students across the state. Before the pandemic I created Confident Classrooms, a program designed to get kids more comfortable with public speaking. ….Imagine what it would be like if you had learned strategies as early as kindergarten!

I’ve had the pleasure of working with community leaders, teachers, students, and many nonprofit organizations as I discovered my passion is for helping leaders and teams be even more successful communicators.
